World Market~Share the Joy and Team Jaylie Slipper Drive for Children with Cancer

This holiday season, I was blessed to be a part of a project that helped me think outside of myself on a bigger level. I think we all feel the Spirit of Christmas giving, and aim to teach our children to “give back” and “get involved” to look for service opportunities, but sometimes don’t know where to find those chances.  I want to help others, and share the joy, but don’t often do the digging that it takes to find something meaningful, it isn’t always right in front of me. This year, it fell into my lap and I’m so grateful. I’ve also got a way to help you to share the joy at the end of this post if you’d like to do that–and involve your children as well.

About a month ago, I applied to be a part of the World Market~ Share the Joy campaign, not 100% sure what that fully meant when I applied. I mean, I like to share JOY all over the place, I knew I’d love it no matter what! Once accepted, I found out I would be given a World Market gift card to shop for someone else. The suggestion said, “Really take the time to think about who you might know that could use a little extra cheer this holiday season.”  I thought of firefighters, Nursing Home, school, or other community places, but those ideas didn’t really inspire me. I wanted to do something extra special and meaningful. As I thought and asked around, it all became clear who I wanted to Share the Joy with.

I know this cute little 6  year old girl named Jaylie. Last Christmas she was a cancer patient, and this year is in remission…yay!  Her mom talked to me about photographing their little friend named Hayden Jade who is very very sick this Christmas. I was supposed to go to Hayden’s 5th birthday party, but they had to cancel it because she had to go to the hospital. Though I hadn’t met her, I knew I wanted to Share the Joy with Hayden. So I set off to World Market with a sweet little 5 year old girl in mind. A sweet little girl sick with cancer.

I found myself in the baked goods section, and saw so many great options! I am LOVING World Market’s Christmas baking selection!  Super cute red and mint green dishes, utensils, cup cake paper liners, tins, sprinkles, you  name it!

Since I knew Hayden was in the hospital, I wanted to get something easy for her to bake, so got a cute little Hot Cocoa cookie mix kit that just adds sugar and water–how easy is that? (close up shot later)

I was so excited to find the  unique toy section with so many fun activities that a sweet little girl in and out of the hospital could do at home or in a lumpy hospital bed. My cute little assistant picked out a large and small yellow rubber ducky.

I gathered some fun toys, baked items, and Christmas fun to fill my basket of fun for Hayden! Here are some up-close shots of my basket:

Sadly, I didn’t get messages back from Hayden’s mom because she has taken a turn for the worse, and I’m not sure what is going to happen.   I had this great basket intended for a sick little one, and I wanted to make sure it got somewhere special. My friend Jaylie and her mom offered to deliver this basket of goodies to the children’s cancer wing for me, and I was happy to have Jaylie represent me, and share the joy. So I delivered the goodie basket to her, and she will disperse it among the children in the hospital this Christmas.

You see, six-year-old Jaylie wanted to do something sweet for the local children with cancer this holiday season, as she was in their place last Christmas.  She came up with a Slipper Drive, because the children in hospital beds get chilly feet, and she though it would be a fun gift to give them. She is collecting brand new pairs of slippers to help put smiles on the faces of children with cancer. Their goal is 1000 pairs, and if you’d like to participate (which I invite you to) this is a great opportunity to take your kids out and shop for them, or simply send a few dollars to the slipper fund via their paypal address. Boy or girl styles, any sizes, any colors.

{Pin this flier above for more exposure, mail slippers or gift cards to the address above, or CLICK HERE to be directed to the paypal account on the sidebar of this blog to easily donate just a few dollars to this sweet girls cause. Tell them Kristen Duke sent you!}

Joy Quote

I asked my bloggy friend Kiki at Kiki Creates to design something pretty around this quote.  I told her the colors I wanted, and she came up with something beautiful!  I originally found the quote from Leigh Anne at Your Homebased Mom on her Christmas card, but I altered the words just a little.  Kiki does beautiful design work, and if you’d like the same design, you can find this print in her shop.  For the next week (til next Saturday) you can purchase anything in her Stripe Colletion for 20% off with the code: STRIPE20.

I mean, check out some of the stripe collection:

drool….

CLICK HERE to go directly to her shop.

I love beautiful design work, and I can’t do it, so I find it elsewhere.  I’d like to learn how to do it though….

She also guest posted on my Decorating with Portraits series in September and used the “I love you because…” printables along with individual prints of her kids.  Click here to see her post.

Thanks again, Kiki!

Ruffles and Fringe~Sponsors

I posted a while back that I love free stuff and would photograph said “stuff” as well (to use as needed).  Included in the offer is a blog post and button on the bottom for 2 months.  I am slightly obsessed with any kind of accessory, and these cute headbands are no exception.  Nicole sent me 4 adorable headbands–all different.  I think my favorite is the green/purple double flower, but I also love how she wrapped 2 of them with black ribbon to make them softer behind the ear.   I also think the center gems make the piece go from cute to super fancy!  Please visit the Ruffles and fringe shop and message Nicole if you’d like something you don’t see.

I can’t do this for everyone, so if you are interested, send me a link to your shop/blog and I will look it over to see if it is something I’d like. If not, I’d be happy to feature you for 2 months with a post/button for  with a sponsor fee.
