Family Silhouette Inspiration

I love a good silhouette picture! They can be tricky, and I shared a post about how to shoot a great silhouette a while back, but I wanted to share some inspiration for Family Silhouettes. Feel free to pin the collage below, then hop on over to the sites of the images you like best.  Sadly, some only link to pinterest because the original source wasn’t grabbed, but I liked them enough I wanted to share them.

Make Your Own Stamps with Silhouette

I used to be a HUGE scrapbooker–back in the 90′s when I was in high school, before it caught the mainstream fever. I subscribed to the magazines, and with my two boys as babies, I have many years “scrapbooked.” I then got into stamping just to add something a little extra to my layouts.  I was so excited to hear that the Silhouette machines were promoting a new stamping kit, to make your own stamp!

I’ve been redesigning my packaging for portrait sessions, and it all came together at just the right time. I knew I wanted to create something fun and personal to include in my packaging. Along with images and prints, I wanted to give a little treat to my clients when they get their order. Who doesn’t like a little surprise? I’ve not finalized this plan, but I’m thinking I love the look of this little gift, which is also PERFECT for party favors of any kind. Just think of the possibilities in making your own stamps!

I chose to create the word “JOY!” in a frame, along with a flag banner. Both shapes were one of the 10 exclusive stamp designs in the stamping starter kit, then I chose a font for JOY that worked well for cutting.

I got some colorful candy, put it in a cut bag, and attached my stamped cut out to the outside of the bag.

I included below a little collage of the steps I took. With the Silhouette kit comes a few sheets of the rubber material that sticks to the cutting mat. In the silhouette settings, you cut the mat. I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to figure it out, but the step by step process is all in the kit and INCREDIBLY easy, plus Silhouette has some fabulous how-to videos that are very helpful.  I was sent a black ink pad in the kit, but I had a hot pink ink pad at home that I used instead.

How to make Fingerprint Art

I’d seen a few examples online of fingerprint art, but I wanted to go on a grander scale for my project with the pallet in our Master Bedroom Makeover. I had a bunch of leftover planked boards (that resemble pallet pieces) from my Girls Fancy Bedroom Makeover project in my garage, so I slapped the pieces together, then cut them in half to make a piece for each side of the headboard.

How to make a Silhouette Canvas with a Silhouette Cameo

I’m so excited to show you how to make a Silhouette Canvas with a Silhouette Cameo that I shared in the girls Fancy Room Gallery Wall. This was my very first project with my new Silhouette Cameo machine, and it was so exciting how easy it was!

I have long admired the Silhouette, but the idea of actually having one in my possession left me paralyzed with fear that I’d be overwhelmed learning another gadget. But my desire to make fun projects  outweighed that fear, and I hooked it up to my electronic arsenal in my office last week, with the help of my fabulous neighbor and friend, Staci. She’s a pro, she makes vinyl cuteness on a regular basis in her etsy shop.

Along with the excitement of cutting fun shapes right in my office, it was SO fun to look around the Silhouette site to see all the super cute shapes they offer.  At $1 per shape, it’s pretty reasonable, and I love that I pick what I want and have the shape on my computer after. I decided I wanted to add some art to My Girls Room gallery wall with fun colored silhouette shots. Here is the “picture to silhouette” before and after!
