Citrus Photography Art Prints

I love photographing food lately, it has become a new art medium for  me. I’ve photographed people for so long, it actually is a challenge to stage food, just so. I love the way citrus colors blend together: limes, oranges, and lemons are so cheery and happy.  I shared my Fresh Squeezed Limeade post earlier in the week, and mentioned that I use limes several times a week with almost any Mexican meal. I also shared my Creamy Jalapeno Ranch Dip which has lime juice in it, and with my cheesy Queso, I liven up my chips with lime juice, too!

The citrus colors have always made me  happy, and I’d wanted to pull them together for some art prints for my home.

I’d love to see if you print them in your home! I suggest printing a 16×20 or larger if you are placing on your wall. If on a table top, an 8×10 or 5×7 will work. Sams Club or Costco 16×20 prints are very economical at around $5 each, just remember to un-check the box that says to color correct or it will likely turn out dark.  Do you like this stuff? More photography art prints in the future?

My orange and yellow summer Sunshine mantel

In case you missed my guest post last week on KoJo Designs, I thought I’d share it with you here.

When I think about summer, I think about the beautiful sunshine.  What color is sunshine? Orange and yellow!  I needed something vibrant to last all summer up on my mantel, and up until this week, I still had it decorated from my daughters Lalaloopsey birthday party (that was over a month ago). The color orange for this series was my inspiration.  How is THIS for a fun, summery, orange mantel?

I am in LOVE!  I was trying to think of something BIG to span the mantel to paint orange, and a nice old pair of shuters came to mind.  I found them on craig’s list with a pretty royal blue hue, but just had to paint her orange.  Nice. and. bright.

I then wanted to include a colorful sun image, and couldn’t decide if I wanted to make something out of wood and paint it, print a picture. I eventually decided to pull out my scrabook paper and covered an existing 16×20 canvas I had, and wrapped it like wrapping paper. I then crafted the lovely sun, which rays stretch out in all directions and make me quite happy.I used two quotes that I’d love to be ingrained into my children’s heads as they go through life. The one above is simple: be sunshine to others, and you will feel sunshine. Sounds delightful, doesn’t it? If you’d like a copy of this printable, you can get it HERE. The bike used to be black (World Market a few years ago), and I like to decorate it with different color strings.  In the basket, the “fruit” are gumballs. I got this giant Ball Mason jar at Hobby Lobby. Normally $6, but half off. I had thought about spraying it silver, but I thought gold matched the motif better. I may have had some dripping issues, but I’m over it by now.  I also spray painted the quote easel the same golden color. Scatter Sunshine is another phrase I love from a song, another reminder to spread the happiness around as you go along your day. Paper flowers from Hobby Lobby.
Some people are afraid of orange, but it is a shade that makes me happy and dots my house from place to place. Be bold for the summer, bring out the orange and scatter sunshine!

I was honored that my mantel was featured at The Lettered Cottage mantel link party (they found me before I got the change to link up)!

Color your Summer with KoJo Designs

I’m so excited to be participating in Color  Your Summer with KoJo-Designs and Delia Creates. Each day for several weeks is dedicated to a different color: crafts, recipes, sewing, lots of fun-ness! Both kojo and Delia on their respective blogs, it’s colorful insanity! I met Kirstin from KoJo Designs in April at SNAP, and just adore her! I was assigned the color ORANGE, and to see what project I put together, you’ll have to head on over to  KoJo’s to check it out–I love it!  But I wanted to share with you the printable I made for the project.

I then backed the quote with two different patterned papers. To download your own 8×10 copy, click here. I didn’t actually create this lovely piece, but found it at Sweet Coconut Lime, and asked permission from her to change the colors and share it with you all here.  The original version has blues and green and yellows and so cute, go to her site to download that version. Be sure to head on over to kojo designs for more colorful posts!
