Mother’s Day Free Printable Journal Questions

Mom Week continues, I thought I’d offer a little Mother’s Day free printable of the questions I’ve asked my friends about their mothers. I think it’s great for journaling, I’m all about memory keeping.

But first, my 4th Mom Chat video on seeking forgiveness from children after frustrating moments. Have you watched the others? I’ve been happy to see a few numbers, that yes, some of you are watching!

On my Mind in March

My friends, I’m back! Oh how I’ve missed writing in my daily journal, and missed hearing from you loyal readers. Today, I’ll share some of what’s been on my mind lately, it is Monday after all.

  • I have LOVED all of the Decorating with Pictures inspiration. I’ve got my new painted creation up on my wall, with plans to add a few more. One “take home” I got from the series is that I want to print up some instagram/phone pictures. I love those everyday shots that I take, often when my “big camera” is home. Did you enter all of the fabulous giveaways for the month? 56 total, with lots of chances to win! Just scroll through the month of February posts to make sure you enter! (Open that link in a new tab and keep reading here!)
  • Are you crafty with a blog? Did you see there are open entries to the Creating with the Stars series? I kinda want to enter again, I was a participant nearly 4 years ago and became great friends with my star!
  • I posted on Facebook last night, suggestions for over-the-counter acne treatments. Trying to decide today if I’ll run out and get Cetaphil cleanser, Tea Tree Oil wash, or Clean and clear. I got SOOOOO many great suggestions, but think I’ll start with those.
  • My 90 year old grandparents are coming to see me this week! I’m prepping our spare room right now, anxious for their arrival. With my parents in Ghana, it will be nice to have them come hang out for a bit. They are still quite healthy, and I’m excited to snap some fun pictures with them while they are here.
  • If you were inspired by the Decorating with Pictures series, and created something of your own, I’d love to see it–take a picture! I’ll be sharing them throughout the year in a post!
  • Did you see the family meal plan I posted yesterday? Trying my best to be organized with meal planning!
  • It’s still cold in Texas, which is quite odd for March. Sadly, it’s been our COLDEST year that I remember (in the 11 years I’ve been in Austin) with 3 school cancellations and 3 or so late days, yet STILL.NO.SNOW!! It’s quite dis-heartening. We’ve had snow sporadically in the past, but not this year. They say….it might happen tonight.
  • Did you know that I have a SEARCH bar on my blog? Top right corner, I use it all the time (and just did to find our theme song) to try to find something QUICK that I just can’t remember where it is on my site. You should try it sometime.
  • Two years ago, I wrote a post called, What I Believe. I talk about growing up Mormon, and why I chose it as an adult as well. Then a year ago I wrote: What I believe Part II and how I live daily to Let my Light So Shine. In it, I have teamed up with some other Mormon bloggers to share a printed packet of our thoughts on how our beliefs have steered us on our path in life. At the end, I say I’ll personally mail a packet to you. I got an email this week with someone requesting a packet, and was so excited. Let me know if you’d like one, too!
  • My husband and I have been reading, studying, and altering how we feed our family. I feel like there are so many conflicting views out there in the world, and not really sure which direction to go. We’ve been reading some books and trying some experiments.  I’ll keep you all posted.
  • Are you actually reading all of these bullet points, or is this just for me? Either way, I like doing it. Gets things out of my brain, and into the history books.
  • I’ve been delving into Boy Scouting recently and stressing over my son on the road to his Eagle Scout. Scouting is NOT my thing, but I’m the mom, and I need to help him be organized about all the merit badges he’s working. Anyone else done this? Doing it? It will hang like a cloud over me, I fear, until my second son (who is 11.5) has his eagle. So…probably the next 4 years if I’m lucky.
  • I had a 24 hour stomach bug last week. I was in bed for a day (watching Revenge episodes back to back on netflix). It’s been a few years since I’ve had that!! I rarely get sick, so it throws me for a loop.
  • My cute youngest daughter wanted to go outside and play last week, but it was pretty cold. I said she needed a jacket and she exclaimed, “But I don’t want to put a jacket over my cute-ness!” Meaning her outfit. She puts together the most enjoyable ensembles. I just love it.Here is the picture I shared on instagram of her cuteness.
  • I heard a really great lesson at church yesterday that got me emotional and all choked up. It really isn’t hard to get me choked up though, I’m sensitive. In fact, that’s what the lesson was all about, being overly sensitive and being offended by people, and how we need to CHOOSE joy. It’s my goal to choose joy in life, I feel mostly happy and joyful in life, until I get my feelings hurt. And I’m too sensitive. I get my feelings hurt way too easily. I had a friend recently tell me its because I’m observant and aware of others needs so much so that it hurst me more when I feel it isn’t reciprocated. I thought that was an interesting thought. Back to the lesson part. We watched a little video clip that shows a really pessimistic guy going about his day complaining about people all around town, then is given a magic pair of glasses that allows him to see the biggest trials for the people he passes by through out the day. It allows him to be more sensitive, and see others as the Savior see’s us, and therefore softens his heart. We are in control of how we react to others (even me getting my feelings hurt) and only we can control how we will carry forward, despite how we are treated. See that video HERE.
  • I’ll close with a happy! (Lest that last bullet brought you down). Our church congregation had a family talent show last Saturday night, and we sang our Duke family theme song. It was really fun, and my awesome friend Jennifer took some pics of us and another friend captured it on video. A treasure to me. I shared our theme song back here. I wanted to create something more serious, didn’t think of a song, but my kids had been watching Looney Toons too much last summer, and we got a little silly in the song. We came up with it together, how we want to be a team, and our goal on how to live. I now love it! And I love my Team Duke.

On my Mind Today

So excited about 2014! Something about a new year/clean slate, brings great possibility.  Here are some highlights and thoughts from my past week:

  • I had a great New Years Eve! For the first time ever our entire family stayed up til midnight! Last year it was just my boys and I (husband usually goes to bed). It helped that we were at a friends house, and we actually planned to leave at 10 ish, but we were having too much fun!  It was a fun evening filled with food, games, laughter, and friends.
  • My 4. 5 year old daughter switched from her Strider/Balance bike on New Years Day, and within 15 minutes of figuring out the “pedal thing” she was riding her two wheeler bike all by herself. It was SO exciting! I wish I had a balance bike for other kids, they learned the old school way!
  • Today I start my big 6 weeks to TONE with cross fit workouts! Excited and nervous! If you want to join in, CLICK HERE for workout schedule (I actually just put in a new document yesterday because mine printed weird and I had to re work it). If you DO plan to join in, I thought a fun hashtag would be good so I can see what you are doing. Tag me on Instagram or hashtag #crossfitjoy if you take pictures of you working out!
  • I am re-commiting to meal planning. I had fun hopping around my friend Leigh Anne’s site, Your Homebased Mom and her weekly meal plans. LOVE how she’s already mixed it up to give variety throughout the week!
  • Another one of my goals for this year was to Invite a Family over for Dinner, and I did that yesterday! It was so enjoyable, and I’ve already got another family coming next week. I’m usually a once a monther for that, but there were extenuating circumstances. We’ve all got excuses why we don’t do it, but I’ve got great reasons why it’s awesome, check out the list I made on that link (above).
  • Took the kids to a jumpy trampoline place. They love it, and I’m cheap, so only do it once in summer and once over winter break!
  • I have REALLY REALLY enjoyed sleeping in over the 2 week Christmas break. Will miss that one.
  • Our church time changed from 8am to start at 10am for the year, and I’m pretty excited about that one!!  Did you know we go to church for 3 hours each week? 3 hours of spiritual nourishment, I love it.
  • Watching the Best of Jimmy Fallon special while trying to get some work done. He’s so funny! I hardly ever watch that show, but I love a good “best of” recap. My brother met him in New Orleans at a restaurant a few years ago, and said he was really friendly. I like hearing that.
  • Trying to finalize details for our family cruise this month. So much to figure out, and I’m going in blind. Thank goodness for Facebook Peeps helping me out!!
  • Working on finishing our front living room, got my chairs covered, a rug ordered, and just a few more details to reveal at the end of the month!

Here are some pics from my phone in the past week:

2014 Goals

Happy New Year!!! I love the idea of a fresh start on January 1st. Last year, I made some blogging goals and personal goals, so I thought I’d type out a few again.  I can’t think of just one thing to work on, so I’ll just chat about the areas in my life that I want to improve. I think I’ll print this up and keep it as a reminder for myself.  Look at this, you’re getting two “on my mind” posts in one week from me.

I Also wanted to share the flip gram video I made of my Instagram highlights, since it was too long to share on Instagram!  Everyone was sharing their highlights in 15 seconds and my eyes couldn’t even focus on one image. So mine is about 2 minutes. I wish it started at the beginning of the year, but it goes backwards.

Family

This little family of mine, I love them so! I am so grateful for my loving, supportive husband. My kids amaze me everyday, they love each other, which brings me so much joy. My goal: I want to just SIT with them in the afternoon when school is over. Have a snack with them, just BE. We’ve read chapter books together off and on, I need to pull that out again. Especially with my boys. I need to do more back scratches, they like that. Continue with one on one activities with them, and visit them at lunch at school more. I’ve slacked on that.  More family bike rides. I like that.… Continue Reading
