Cherry Miscellaneous Bar {Blondie Brownie}

If I had my way, I’d call this the Cherry-Chocolate-Chip- Cream-Cheese-Cookie-Dough-Blondie-Brownie-Bar. That’s pretty much a summary of what’s in the Cherry Miscellaneous Bar. All that, and a ball of crumbs. Well I guess I can’t say cookie dough AND blondie, because those are the same thing, just one is cooked and the other is raw dough.

But before we do that, it’s the 10th blog hop today! Though this month is dedicated to Decorating with Pictures and double daily giveaways, I’ve got the 10th reserved each month for this fun blog hop around a theme, so I’m squeezing it in!

This month’s theme is RED. There are so many fun projects to choose from- recipes, decor, and so much more! I’d love for you to pin the collage below, and then go see all the other fabulous projects created by some of my friends.

Back to my red treat.

This bar has so many layers, I didn’t know what to call it. You see, I made it up. I invented it. I’m sure that no one else in this world thought of such a concoction. Food bloggers are probably wondering why they didn’t think of this. Well, maybe someone did already and I just don’t know about it.  I decided on miscellaneous to describe the insides, because the literal definition is “items of various types from different sources.” Sounds about right.  But you can call it what you want. I also like Cherry Blondie Brownie.

I was so excited about the layers I had dreamed up for this bar. Excited to mix a blondie and a brownie together, Excited to throw in the cream cheese mixture that I love so much from my cream cheese cupcakes. I mentioned my idea to my food savvy friend, Juliet, (she was on the Master Chef) and she was like, “why don’t you simply it and just do the blondie.” But oh no, I had a vision. A multi-layered vision.

It was everything that I dreamed.

Here is a visual step by step of the process:

Cherry Blondie Brownie

Being that it has layers, the prep time is a bit longer than more treats, but I promise, its worth it! Layers go like this: Brownie batter. Blondie batter dropped on top (cookie dough), cream cheese mixture drizzled, the chopped cherries. YUM!  I got the cream cheese mixture from my favorite Cream Cheese Cupcakes.

If you’d like you can use any brownie recipe (even from the box) and any basic cookie dough recipe, but here is the recipe I used:

Cherry Miscellaneous Bar {Blondie Brownie}
Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:
Serves: 12
  • Brownie Base Layer:
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ⅔ cup butter, melted & divided (1/3 cup + ⅓ cup)
  • ½ cup boiling water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1⅓ cup flour
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • Blondie Layer:
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted room temp. butter
  • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Cream Cheese Drizzle:
  • 8 oz. cream cheese
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ⅛ tsp salt
  • 1 cup (or more) cherries, chopped
  1. Brownie Base Layer:
  2. Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
  3. Measure tin foil in 9x13 pan, grease, and set aside.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the cocoa and baking soda.
  5. Stir in ⅓ cup of the melted butter until smooth.
  6. Stir in the boiling water until the mixture is smooth and thick.
  7. Stir in the sugar and eggs with the remaining ⅓ cup melted butter.
  8. Stir in the vanilla and salt until just smooth.
  9. Dump in the flour and chocolate chips at the same time, and stir until just combined.
  10. Spread the batter into baking dish.
  11. Blondie Layer:
  12. Cream your butter and sugars.
  13. Add egg and vanilla beating to combine.
  14. Add flour, cornstarch, baking soda, salt then chocolate chips, mixing until combined.
  15. Drop clumps of dough on top of the brownie mixture.
  16. Drizzle Cream cheese layer over the top.
  17. Strategically placed chopped cherries all over the top
  18. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes or more, checking so it doesn't overcook.
  19. ENJOY!

Give it a try, and you’ll be in heaven like I was. I actually let them sit out for an hour to cool, then put them in the fridge to chill. I love my treats cold, and the texture and delight from all of the mixtures was that much more evident when cold.  It also allows for a more smooth cut when they have chilled properly.

37 delicious White Chocolate recipes

I have a slight obsession with white chocolate these days. It’s seemingly come out of nowhere, and I find myself buying a bag of white chocolate chips each time I go to the grocery story because I’ve used a bag in the past week. I find a handful of white chips to be an enjoyable snack in the afternoon, especially paired with a handful of craisins as well. I have scoured the web and found the most mouth watering recipes, a lot of these I’ve made myself…the rest, I have big plans to make them soon!

I decided to conduct a little taste test with my hubby to see which white chocolate chip brand he likes best (because they all taste the same to me) and I was surprised with the results! I’ve always heard that Ghirardelli chocolate is the best, and well, the packaging is shiny and pretty, so I generally purchase that brand. My hubby (from San Fransisco where Ghirardelli is made) placed this particular chocolate in THIRD place! He said it was chalky.  Second place came Hershey’s, and first place was NESTLE! I really should just buy whatever is cheapest…do you have a preference?

I didn’t realize there is a big difference between pure white chocolate and vanilla almond bark that I often use in some baking such as dipping chocolate.  Wikipedia told me they are actually made from inexpensive solid or hydrogenated vegetable and animal fats, and are not even made from cocoa. This coating  is white (in contrast to white chocolate’s ivory shade) and will lack cocoa butter’s flavor.

I’ve found myself searching my favorite blogs to see if they have a recipe with white chocolate chips, and have seen a few while browsing on pinterest. I thought I’d do a little gathering of the white chocolate recipes that look the most delicious to me that I’d like to try. I was surprised that a lot of these DIDN’T come up in a pinterest search for “white chocolate chips” so I thought this might be helpful for those others that love white chocolate chips as well. In this collection, I’ve found quite a few differenent “blondie” bar recipes, pancakes, cookies, fudge, cheesecake, rice krispies, and a dip. Enjoy some eye candy for now (until you get to baking)!
