LoziLu Women’s Mud Run

Last weekend I participated in the LoziLu Women’s Mud Run with my chicas, and it was so much fun!

I’d never done a race like this before, and being with my favorite girls was a lot of fun. These three lovely ladies married my brothers, and I couldn’t be more grateful for them in my life. Kim organized us a few months ago, and Alayna had never even participated in a running race before, so it was really fun to do this together.  Since this blog is also a journal for myself, I’m loading a whole lotta pictures for you and for my later viewing pleasure–approximately 35 (sorry for those of you reading on your phone). Enjoy the play by play, you might feel as if you were there! My awesome hubby took all of the action shots for us, so glad he learned to Say NO to Auto in Alaska this summer;)

My sis in laws drove in the day before with their families from Houston and Corpus Christi. I got to host, and in the morning, the girls all left ahead of time, leaving all the children with the men to come a little later.  It was about 10 minutes before start time, and they weren’t there yet, so I had my camera, set it up, and asked a nice stranger to take some shots of me and my chicas.

*editing original post to include the official race pictures they sent us and allowed us to use. See all here.

Below from left to right: Kristen, Kim, Rachel, Alayna.

The pic of Kim above was my test shot before our group shots. I just asked our stranger friend not to move her feet or zoom to lose my focus. Kim is expecting #3 in the spring;)  Nice stranger put up with my request to “take a bunch including action shots.”

Alayna is the expert with fake eyelashes, and the idea behind having hot pink, so she placed them on all of our eyes, including her own.
I think I asked a second stranger to take these with the eyelashes…

Luckily, the troops rolled in about 3 minutes before start time, I handed my camera to my hubby, and he took a bunch.  I love my kids coming to cheer me on in races, we love to cheer their dad on, too. (My youngest brother Kirk on the right with his wife, Rachel)

The race officials took this backdrop pic for us before the race…

And we’re off…

It was also an obstacle course, and sadly I don’t have images of the tires we ran through, the balance beam, the ramps we jumped off of, the walls we climbed…

This is what the kids did while they waited for us…

My older brother, Ryan with the hat, husband to Alayna. Sadly, my brother Russell (Kim’s husband) had to stay behind to work…the life of an ER resident…

I love all of these actions shots below of us coming in, and getting muddy.  We decided we just weren’t muddy enough (there was just one water pit, not very muddy, previous to this, and excited that the mud pit was at the end right in front of the spectators.

The girl leaping below just cracks me up…

We stayed and played in the mud a little while…

VICTORY!!

Editing to add the images that the race shared with us:

Surprisingly, my kids were not interesting in a victory hug from me. My youngest actually cried a little and told me she didn’t want a hug (afraid I was going to anyway). You can see Kim at the bottom of this image trying to talk to her 3 year old who was also unintersted in chatting.s

It was really so much fun, and once we wrapped our heads around the fact that we were going to get super dirty, we jumped into it whole heartedly–literally!  Our victory dance below.

This obstacle below was by our cars, so we decided to climb it again (in flip flops) just to get a documentation (images courtesy of my 7 year old after I set it up).

Up and over…

Love these girls!

If you want to find some tall socks like ours in varying colors, you can get them here. Bandana’s from Hobby Lobby. Eyelashes from Party City.  Our tanks are from Old Navy, iron on by my mom and Alayna. We had so much fun, we decided we wanted to do another, and found there are mud runs all over, all the time! Look it up, grab some friends, and do one yourself!!!

Has anyone ever done something like this before? I heard there is a paint run and a foam run, too!

  1. What great fun! Congrats!
I am taking photos of some friends that are running The Color Run this weekend. I’m thinking I’ll use the aperture priority mode for pictures. Is that what you would suggest?

Amanda, I don’t every use aperture priority. You can set your aperture on a nice standard 2.8 or 4.0 and will only have to fiddle with your shutter speed as it gets light and dark depending on the sun/cloud coverage. The color fun sounds so fun!!!

  2. Loved, loved, loved doing this!! I’m so glad you got lots of pictures. :D Thanks for letting us crash at your place and play this past weekend!
