A day at the Beach {Corpus Christi Texas}

I’m not really a big fan of the beach. It’s sandy, it’s salty, it’s sticky. I don’t like being sticky. Even as a young girl, I didn’t love going to the beach because I knew the entire drive home would be sticky. BUT, my California boy LOVES the beach…it is his Zen. He dreams of it, yea dreams of living on it someday…that is not my dream. Actually if I don’t get in the water, I can tolerate it much more. We live 3 hours from the beach, but haven’t been since my family reunion last November (remember the extended family pictures with the beach balls?) Last weekend, we took a drive down to Corpus Christi, Texas to go to the beach and visit my brother, too. I thought I’d share a few fun shots of us playing at the beach.

family beach trip

It had been raining the entire week before, but the day we went to the beach, the stars aligned, and it was a gorgeous, most perfect day! The kids loved playing in the waves, and the water was the perfect temperature–not too hot, not too cold. It was even warm enough that I didn’t freeze when I got out of the water.

My brother had tucked in his garage “the Mega-station” that my mom got for our lake family reunion 5 years ago. It’s a floating party boat.

It’s meant for calmer waters, and we didn’t expect the waves to be so big in the bay, but the kids had a blast, and we even got some pictures caught from my brother’s waterproof camera (I need to get another one of those puppies).

Ocean Waves

We were only about 20 feet out, and an adult could always touch, and helped us not drift off into the ocean. The waves would come crashing over us at times, which could bring laughter…or tears. I had to hold on tight to the little ones, and the big kids went flailing about. My daughters braces even cut a gash into my sons foot–oops! Luckily no major injuries.

At the beach

I wish I got a pic of my brother and his family of 5, everyone is represented except the 6 month old baby, who enjoyed time in her shaded bouncy seat. If the beach brings my family this much joy, I can surely tolerate it at least once a year;)

Are you like me or my husband? Love the beach, or tolerate it?

  1. Kristen,
I love you beach pictures. It looks like most everyone was having a great time. I love the ocean and the beach. We live in Southern Utah, so we go to the lake a lot with our boat, no beach, but love it.

  2. I love it, especially with my kids. Every time we go, I remember just how much fun the beach is for kids…they are so happy there and can play for hours and hours. It’s especially nice if we’re staying somewhere that has a pool so we can go “rinse” off after the beach at the pool! Last month we decided to camp at the beach for the first time ever, to save money. I don’t love camping, but it was so cool to just sleep on the other side of the dunes, then take a short walk over the dunes and be at the beach. It was magical. But yes, cleaning up afterwards was harder since the showers weren’t warm and you had to pull a string for the water to come out! (This was all at the Outer Banks, NC) Anyway, cute pictures from your beach trip and hope you go even more often! Stay in a beach house with family and/or friends – so fun!!

Love it! Love it! Love it! Mega station has brought repeat fun, which I also love! Looks like you had enough thrills to represent all of us! Thanks for posting all theses pics, though it makes me homesick, I love seeing all of you having such a good time together! Hugs & love to you all & those not there as well!

  4. What fun pictures of what looks to be a really fun day! Yay you for making memories with your kids, even if it isn’t your thing. Personally, I love the beach. It is my dream retirement location. That’s a few years down the road though.

  6. I LOVE the beach! We live a little over an hour away, and make the drive as much as we can in the summer. I used to hate the sticky feeling, too, but for whatever reason, now I don’t mind it at all. My husband is not quite as enthusiastic about the beach as I am, but he’s always game since he knows how much I love it. ( : We’re even planning a trip or two this winter, just to walk in the sand and look for seashells. I have a lot of very fond memories at the beach. I feel so at peace there.

  7. I adore the beach! I wish we were on one more often. Looks like the family had a blast!

  8. I agree! We also dread the sticky sandy salty drive home and getting it all in the car!

  10. Hello! I have followed your blog for some time now, but never commented. Until now…
I love the beach. And I think its so much more fun when your kids love it so much too!
I also have a question. I’ve noticed on a couple of blogs the “Pin it” button. How do you get that? I have an Etsy shop and would love to be able to do that to my shop. I just don’t know if I would be able to. Thanks for your help! Love your blog BTW!
